KANE WASELENCHUK THREE-PEATS AS #1!

May 2nd, 2006 by Geoff Thomsen

Kane Waselenchuk ended all doubt regarding his number one status this past weekend at the 2006 IRT Pro National Racquetball Championships. Without losing a single game during ANY of his matches, he rolled through the draws dominating every oponent he faced. With the #1 season finish on the line, Kane delt punishing victories to his early round opponents who scores TOTALED: 13 (Croft), 6 (Gonzalez), and 5 (Carson).

Finals - Waselenchuk def. Huczek (6, 8, 7)

On the women’s side, Cheryl Gudinas was a force to be reckoned with. Ronda Rajsich came out the gates firing, taking the first two games. The tides quickly turned however, and Gudinas battled back to take the final three.

Finals - Gudinas def. Rajsich ((9), (9), 5, 7, 6)

Kane tested positive for drug use after winning the event, and was suspended from racquetball for two years (from any org governed by WADA, including USA Racquetball, Racquetball Canada, IRF)

I’m writing in regards to Kane testing positive for cannibis in Edmonton May 27th, 2006 by the CCES. Cannibis is by no means a performance enhancement drug and can remain in the users system for weeks or months after usage and does confirm the user smoked that day. I’m not saying it is right or condoning his actions, I’m just stating although he has been suspended by the WADA, in my and I’m sure many others who follow this sport, he will always be a champion and once reinstated will again be the best this sport has ever seen.

    Respectfully
    Darrow Waselenchuk

Darrow, thanks for the update on Kane. What is Kane doing for the next two years? Job? Training?

Might we see him as a spectator at some of the Pro stops?

    Thanks from a fan,
    Kevin

Come on Kevin Lets give the guy a break.. Sounds like your a disgruntled player who got his behind whooped by him but good, probably on a few occasions. Little Jealousy here??? Lets remember for a guy his age, he gave the sport what it needed Showmanship & Entertainment. we were all young & experimental at some point in our lives, lets not hold that against him. Personally I wish him the best & hope to see him back at the sport after his suspension is over & he has the opportunity, strength to make better personal choices in his life which I’m sure he will.

From a Real Fan who holds no Grudges.
    Bill Baxter.

I didn’t know why Kane wasn’t playing on the Pro Tour.

I am very surprise that it was for the simple motive of smoking a joint.

That’s incredible that someone is being punished for so little.

Let’s play the guy!! Some like Bobby Bond have to be punished for taking drugs that improves their performance.

…FOR THIS LAST YEARS LIKE VIETNAM THE USA WERE MASACRED BY A MAN CALL KANE WASELENCHUK… WHAT TO DO? … PUT HIM OUT OF THE TOUR FOR NOT TO BE USA…
…ACCTUALLY I KNEW BY THE PLAYERS THAT IN THE TOUR ARE DEALERS AND CONSUMERS OF MARIGUANA AND THEY ARE AMERICANS… I KNOW, USA HE’S AFRAID…FROM MEXICO.

I read from his brother above that he was suspended from playing because pot was in his blood, but I was told by a very close player / friend of his that he was actually tested and cocaine was found in his system, not marijuana. Is there any truth to this Darrow?

still a fan of his high intensity game, although this might bring him back down to earth. Haven’t seen an ego like his the way he disrepects legends like Swain ever in this sport. too bad I guess, even if he does beat him regularly now.

I did some research, and the Edmonton Journal did a story that he did admit to doping, both cannibus & cocaine. see website following for those that were just as curious as I was to his disappearance:

Being suspended for weed is a joke. Mise well suspend a guy for getting drunk. as for the cocaine thing…..weed can easily be laced and from what I read Kane admitted to the weed but was not aware of any cocaine.

KANE IS DA MAN, AND I AM SURE POLITICS PLAYED A ROLL IN HIM BEING SUSPENDED. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER HEARD OF ANYONE BEING SUSPENDED FOR DRUG USE ON THE TOUR. HOW OFTEN DO THEY TEST THE PLAYERS? I AM SURE HE IS THE ONLY ONE ON THE PRO TOUR TOKING. TEST THEM ALL.
